Four musicians from very different backgrounds came together in 2004, each bringing a wide variety of styles and influences with them, forming a new band with a sound uniquely its own: Math Lab.

Michael, most recently a part of Tulsa’s Special Purpose, brings his unique guitar chops along for the ride in Math Lab. Michael’s interest in classic rock, surf, and indie sounds gives his style a timeless feel, a flavor you can taste even if you can’t quite put your finger on it.

Ross is probably most recognizable for his work as anti-folk troubadour Acoustic Ross, but the vocals and guitar he provides for Math Lab couldn’t be more different. Dusting off his electric guitar, Ross gives his singular songwriting touch a whole new twist in Math Lab.

Jarrod cut his teeth in Tulsa bands like the Wangers and the Best Friends. His melodic bass lines guide Math Lab’s sound, his edgy vocals bringing emotional counterweight, and his songwriting provides a powerful second dimension to the proceedings.

Math Lab’s secret weapon, Dennis goes far beyond the traditional ‘drummer’ role, often acting as in-house musical director & arranger. Where some bands find themselves lacking that ‘one little touch’ to perfect a song, Math Lab can always rely on this multi-instrumentalist (formerly of the Free Beer Band and currently half of Tulsa’s Fincannon) to find & provide that edge.

Math Lab’s original music springs from this all-for-one attitude, with everyone contributing ideas and arrangements, bringing contrasting ideas and styles together into a colorful sound with a life of its own. This robust rhythm section, these four distinct songwriting voices, all these elements come together for a heady mix of classic sounds and indie sentiment, a sound uniquely Math Lab, a sound that’s (forgive me) greater than the sum of its parts.
